  1. Hackers hold unreleased Pirates of the Caribbean movie to ransom

The CEO of Disney Bob Iger has reportedly warned that hackers are holding the unreleased copy of “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie which is due to be released this summer by Disney franchise but the hackers are demanding a massive amount of ransom payment in Bitcoin and threatening to release the movie before time if their demands are not met. While it is unclear how much ransom payment is being demanded, Iger stated that the hackers vowed to release the movie in parts if the ransom payment is not paid. More details are not disclosed in the report.

  1. Weeks Before WannaCry, Cryptocurrency Mining Botnet Was Using Windows SMB Exploit

The WannaCry targeting and spreading fast, according to the new report a security researcher has just discovered a stealthy cryptocurrency-mining malware that was also using Windows SMB vulnerability. According to Kafeine, a security researcher at Proofpoint, another group of cyber criminals was using the same EternalBlue exploit, created by the NSA and dumped last month by the Shadow Brokers, to infect hundreds of thousands of computers worldwide with a cryptocurrency mining malware called ‘Adylkuzz.’ According to news published by the Hacker News, Adylkuzz malware infects unpatched computers and then closes SMB ports to prevent them from further infections, which may have indirectly saved hundreds of thousands of computers from getting hacked by WannaCry ransomware as well. According to Proofpoint, tens of thousands of computers across the world have been infected by the Adylkuzz malware.

Cyber Security Tips:  You are strongly advised to keep yourself safe and patch your systems as soon as possible.

  1. Ransomware attack over 100 computers of Gujarat Police

The Gujarat police today said over 150 of its computers installed at various police stations across the state have been infected by the global ransomware ‘WannaCry. There has been no data loss, but we immediately deputed 130 site engineers to police stations to check the system,” he said. He said the affected computers, connected to the Gujarat State Wide Area Network (GSWAN) and BSNL network, have been isolated to prevent a spread of the ransomware as per the report published by ETCIO.
